Adams Street and Michigan Avenue, downtown Chicago - that corner is mile zero. The Route 66 'Begin' sign has sent riders west toward Santa Monica for nearly a century, and every run down the Mother Road starts right there on the blacktop before the city even thins out. Illinois holds over 300 miles of the original alignment: flat farm country, grain elevators, wide sky all the way to the Missouri line. The Northern Cardinal - that brilliant red bird Illinois claimed as its own in 1929 - watches over all of it. Original Illinois biker shirts, printed on heavyweight ring-spun cotton, shipped to riders in over 70 countries.

Mile Zero, the Cardinal, and the Mother Road

Ride out of Chicago on old Route 66 and the design tells your route back to you: the flat two-lane blacktop through corn and soybean under a sky that runs too big, the Hall of Fame marker in Pontiac where riders stop at the natural midpoint, and the skyline you leave behind at Adams Street. The mark you wear over all of it is the male Northern Cardinal - scarlet from crest to tail, black mask sharp around the bill, state bird since 1929. The all-red plumage hits hard on dark fabric, nothing complicated, just a bird that looks like it means something. Along the bottom runs 'Mother Road,' Steinbeck's name for Route 66, the phrase every rider staging the westward run already carries in their head.

Materials & Who It's For

This one is built for three buyers: the Illinois-born rider flying the state flag wherever they go, the Route 66 pilgrim picking up a start-point piece before heading west from Adams Street, and the partner shopping for the rider who has been talking about doing the full Mother Road run. Tees are heavyweight 5.3oz ring-spun cotton, side-seamed and pre-shrunk. Hoodies are 8.0oz cotton-poly fleece with double-needle stitching at the stress points. Caps use raised embroidery on a structured six-panel. Every piece is checked by hand before it ships and tracked to your door in over 70 countries.
