Sturgis Bobber Apparel

In early August, half a million riders drop into the Black Hills from every direction and Main Street closes to anything with four wheels. That tradition goes back to 1938, when Clarence 'Pappy' Hoel gathered nine racers and a crowd of 175 for the first Black Hills Motor Classic. The roads that surround this town are reason enough to come: 314 curves, 14 switchbacks, three granite tunnels on Iron Mountain Road alone. The American bison anchors the design - head low, shaggy mane out, the same silhouette that roams Custer State Park a few miles down the highway. Original Sturgis biker shirts, printed on heavyweight ring-spun cotton, shipped to riders in over 70 countries.

Pappy's Race, the Bison, and Black Hills Bound

Ask any rider who runs the Black Hills every August and the bison is the right mark for it. The herds were on these hills long before the bikes, and they still roam a few miles south of town. We drew ours in a strong side profile, head tilted down, shaggy mane out - built to read at distance as a chest print or scale up across a full back. Around it the Black Hills granite rises from the plains, Iron Mountain Road curls through a granite tunnel arch, and a row of bikes sits nose-in along Main Street the way it has since 1949. A banner ribbon at the bottom reads 'Black Hills Bound' - the direction you point the bike and the reason you go, three words wide. This is the gear for the crew that rides out west together every year.

Materials & Who It's For

This one lands as a souvenir for a rider who has made the pilgrimage, a bucket-list gift for someone whose August calendar is already circled, or a crew buy for the group that rides out together every year. If the person you are buying for has never been to the Black Hills but knows every word of the Motor Classic's history, this is the piece that fits. Tees are heavyweight 5.3oz ring-spun cotton, side-seamed and pre-shrunk. Hoodies are 8.0oz cotton-poly fleece with double-needle stitching at the stress points. Caps are raised embroidery on a structured six-panel. Every piece is checked by hand before it ships and tracked to your door in over 70 countries.
