That tradition goes back to 1938, when Clarence 'Pappy' Hoel gathered nine racers and a crowd of 175 for the first Black Hills Motor Classic. The roads that surround this town are reason enough to come: 314 curves, 14 switchbacks, three granite tunnels on Iron Mountain Road alone.
