The Loess Hills in western Iowa are a landform found in exactly two places on Earth - here, and along China's Yellow River. A 220-mile ridge road runs the length of them, low traffic, wide views down to the Missouri River floodplain, the kind of road touring riders spend years looking for and rarely talk about once they find it. Below that ridge sits US-30, the old Lincoln Highway, the first road to cross this country coast to coast. Iowa riders know both routes. This collection is built for them. Original Iowa biker shirts, printed on heavyweight ring-spun cotton, shipped to riders in over 70 countries.

The Goldfinch, the Gold Dome, and the Hawkeye State

Ride the Loess Hills ridge at first light and you understand why the mascot on this gear is the goldfinch - a tough little Hawkeye State bird that holds its yellow-and-black color straight through a Midwest winter and reads sharp at any print scale. We perched it on a dried cornstalk, which plants the mark in Iowa and nowhere else. Other states claim the goldfinch. None of them have the corn. Around the bird sits the gold dome of the Des Moines Capitol, real gold-leaf and one of the few central domes in the country, with the Loess Hills ridge line rolling off to the west - the road Iowa riders chase all season. The banner reads Hawkeye State, a name that goes back to Black Hawk, the Sauk leader who would not let his people be pushed off this land without a fight.

Materials & Who It's For

This one is the right pick for the Iowa-born rider who wears the state wherever they go, the touring rider who finally ran the Loess Hills Scenic Byway and wants something to show for it, and anyone making the full Lincoln Highway cross-country run. It also works clean as a gift for the Hawkeye State rider who already has everything else. Tees are heavyweight 5.3oz ring-spun cotton, side-seamed and pre-shrunk. Hoodies are 8.0oz cotton-poly fleece with double-needle stitching at the stress points. Caps use raised embroidery on a structured six-panel. Every piece is checked by hand before it ships and tracked to your door in over 70 countries.
