North Carolina Bobber Apparel

Pull into Maggie Valley in May and the whole town smells like exhaust and mountain fog. Three times a year the Smoky Mountain Biker Rally fills the main drag, and every serious east-coast rider eventually points their front wheel toward the Appalachian ridge road that ends at the Cherokee gateway to the Smokies. Two hundred and fifty-two miles of no commercial traffic, no billboards, ridgeline after ridgeline going soft blue into the distance. The northern cardinal sits at the center of this design: state bird since 1943, vivid red year-round, black mask like it was born wearing one. Original North Carolina biker shirts, printed on heavyweight ring-spun cotton, shipped to riders in over 70 countries.

Red on Black: the Cardinal and the Mountain Road

Ride the mountain parkway through Craggy Gardens, twist down Highway 19 through Nantahala toward the Cherokee gateway, then roll into Maggie Valley and park nose-in with the rest of the crew. That is the run this design is built around. The mark you wear is the northern cardinal, drawn in three-quarter profile, crest raised, the black mask giving him a biker's face without us reaching for it. State bird since 1943, the one bird a Tar Heel rider knows on sight. Around him sit the roads and the rally scene every rider here can name, with 'The Tar Heel State' closing the banner - a nickname worn with pride, never as an insult. Red on black, the way this state rides.

Materials & Who It's For

This one is built for three kinds of riders: the North Carolina local who makes the Maggie Valley run every spring or fall, the east-coast tourer who has finally finished the mountain parkway end-to-end and wants something to mark the trip, and the bucket-list rider planning the Asheville-to-Cherokee loop who wants to show up already wearing the right shirt. Tees are heavyweight 5.3oz ring-spun cotton, side-seamed and pre-shrunk. Hoodies are 8.0oz cotton-poly fleece with double-needle stitching at the stress points. Caps are raised embroidery on a structured six-panel. Every piece is checked by hand before it ships and tracked to your door in over 70 countries.
