The steel arch of the bridge spans 3,030 feet overhead at 876 feet above the water, the longest of its kind in the Western Hemisphere when it went up in 1977, still the thing every rider stops under before the road bends south toward Hatfield-McCoy country. Down there, 1,000 miles of trail cut through eight counties of forested ridge and hollow, pulling adventure riders from across the continent. The black bear moves through all of it: state animal since 1973, as much a fixture in these mountains as the river itself. The mark we put on this gear is the animal that moves through all of it - the black bear, heavy shouldered, alert ears, built for rough terrain. We drew it a deep dark-brown, the real color these mountain bears run rather than true black. Behind it sit the layered Appalachian hills that make every mile here technical, and across the bottom runs the line riders in these hills live by: Mountaineers Are Always Free. Built for the trail regular, the ridge-road tourer, and the native who carries this ground wherever they land.

Materials & Who It's For

This one is made for three kinds of riders: the West Virginia native who wears that identity no matter where they land, the Hatfield-McCoy regular picking up a trail souvenir, and the adventure-touring rider who has run the mountain backroads and wants something to prove it. Tees are heavyweight 5.3oz ring-spun cotton, side-seamed and pre-shrunk. Hoodies are 8.0oz cotton-poly fleece with double-needle stitching at the stress points. Caps use raised embroidery on a structured six-panel. Every piece is checked by hand before it ships and tracked to your door in over 70 countries.
