Every summer a dirt oval appears somewhere outside Athens and the flat track crowd comes out - 2,000-plus riders who found each other through custom builds and philotimo, the Greek word that roughly means doing right by your people. The Athens Flat Track Festival grew from 400 at its first run in 2015 to a full weekend of sideways cornering and live music, and its roots go back to a workshop called The Real Intellectuals that opened in 2014 to give Greece's alternative bike scene a fixed point. That scene, the Acropolis above it, the ancient olive groves around it - that is what this collection is cut from. The Owl, the Rock, and 2,400 Years of Athens

Ride into the Athens flat track scene and one mark keeps showing up on tanks, jackets, and the backs of the crew: the Owl of Athena. We wear it here as the compact frontal-facing bird off the old Athenian silver coins, large round eyes, tight feather detail, the letters ΑΘΕ tucked beneath as a quiet nod to the original. Behind the owl we set the Acropolis rock in three-quarter profile, the Parthenon columns catching Mediterranean light, and a gnarled olive branch, Athena's gift to the city. The banner carries 'Philotimo', the word Greek riders use for doing right by your people - which is exactly what we mean by brotherhood. That is the story you carry on the road.

Materials & Who It's For

This one is built for three kinds of riders: the traveler who rode through Athens or caught the Athens Flat Track Festival and wants something that actually means something; the Greek rider buying a piece of home to fly on the road; and the history-minded biker drawn to a design with real depth behind it. Tees are heavyweight 5.3oz ring-spun cotton, side-seamed and pre-shrunk. Hoodies are 8.0oz cotton-poly fleece with double-needle stitching at the stress points.
