Leipzig Bobber Apparel
Every February, before the salt is off the roads in most of Germany, central Germany's riding community packs into the Messe grounds in Leipzig for the season-opener trade fair. It is the first big bike gathering of the German calendar year, and when it breaks up the city still belongs to them. Backdrop to all of it is the Völkerschlachtdenkmal - the locals call it the Völki - a 91-metre granite dome built in 1913 on the ground where 600,000 soldiers fought in 1813. Nowhere else in Europe does a monument carry that kind of weight. Original Leipzig biker shirts, printed on heavyweight ring-spun cotton, shipped to riders in over 70 countries.
Granite, guardian warriors, and the Völki
Every rider who calls Leipzig home rides in the shadow of the Völki, so that's the mark on this apparel. We drew the Völkerschlachtdenkmal in stark silhouette: the monolithic dome rising off a broad base, the guardian warrior figures barely readable at scale but there if you look, the whole mass reflected in the basin at its feet. It sits the way a rider wants a mark to sit - heavy, quiet, earned. Around the dome we set the heraldic eagle off the Leipzig coat of arms with its diagonal black-and-gold stripe. The banner along the bottom carries 'Völki', the nickname Leipzig has used for its colossus longer than anyone can remember. Wear it to the Messe season opener or on the first ride out of town.
Materials & Who It's For
This one lands for the Leipzig-born rider who moved away but still flies the city's colors, the MOTORRAD MESSE visitor who wants a souvenir that is actually about Leipzig and not a generic skyline print, and the East German diaspora rider who grew up in the shadow of the Völkerschlachtdenkmal and feels it. Tees are heavyweight 5.3oz ring-spun cotton, side-seamed and pre-shrunk. Hoodies are 8.0oz cotton-poly fleece with double-needle stitching at the stress points. Caps use raised embroidery on a structured six-panel. Every piece is checked by hand before it ships and tracked to your door in over 70 countries.
