The Granite Face and the Granite State

Roll into Weirs Beach in June and the mark on this gear is already staring back at you from every quarter, plate, and highway sign in the state - the Old Man of the Mountain. Five ledges of granite that stacked into a human profile on the face of Franconia Notch for millennia. The face came off the mountain in 2003 and New Hampshire kept the profile anyway, because Granite State riders do not retire the thing that made them. We drew it in side profile, distressed and angular, and set it above the Winnipesaukee shoreline with a row of classic American V-twins parked along the boardwalk strip. The White Mountain peaks fill the skyline behind it. The banner at the bottom carries the motto that has ridden the license plate longer than most of us have been on two wheels: Live Free or Die.
