The mascot is the sabal palmetto in silhouette, straight trunk and feather-duster crown, the mark South Carolina riders read on sight and the same shape that rides the state flag. We set the crescent beside it to tighten the icon without wearing the full flag like a costume. Around it: a Carolina wren mid-song on a frond, a white-tailed deer alert in longleaf pine, the road bleeding off toward salt water. The banner reads The Palmetto State.
