Ringtail, Sky Islands, and the Desert That Surrounds Tucson

Every Tucson ride runs through rocky canyon country, from the Gates Pass Saguaro loop out west to the Catalina Highway climb north of town. The Ringtail lives in that exact terrain - small, nocturnal, quick across the boulders, Arizona's state mammal and a Sonoran Desert local through and through. That is the mascot we put on these shirts. We drew it alert on a rock, that long black-and-white banded tail unlike anything else in North America, and built the scene around what a rider actually sees out there: Gates Pass snaking through the Saguaro, the Santa Catalina Mountains cutting the skyline, the desert going wide in every direction. The banner reads 'Sky Islands', the riders' name for the ranges that rise out of this desert like islands out of a flat sea.
